SENATOR AKON EYAKENYI REPORTS PROGRESS
The senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, Senator Akon Eyakenyi PhD is back home reporting progress from the Nigerian Senate 2 months after being inaugurated into the 9th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The senator who flagged off her Skills Acquisition Training Scheme in Oron Federal Constituency today, thanked God for the opportunity to serve her people in the capacity of a senator.
Senator Eyakenyi expressed gratitude to her constituents for finding her worthy to represent them at that level. She said she had to take up the training of the youths of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District because of the value placed on competencies and skills of individuals over certificates. The Senator said she is embarking on the training of the youths in support of Governor Udom Emmanuel's policy direction of taking Akwa Ibom youths off the street.
Senator Eyakenyi who said the training shall be in phases told the gathering that the next batch of trainees shall be drawn from Eket Federal Constituency and finally from Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency. She called on Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning to partner her efforts at bettering the lives of her constituents while lauding the Governor Udom's burning passion to train and retrain Akwa Ibom youths.
The well attended event had Mr. Samuel Ekpenyong and Professor Victor Bassey Inoka - Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning as chairman and special guest of honour. Other dignitaries who attended the occasion include the Deputy Speaker AKSHA - Rt. Hon. Princess Felicia Bassey; Rt. Hon. Effiong Bassey; Honourable Commissioner for Transport and Solid Minerals - Rt. Hon. (Chief) Uno Etim Uno; Honourable Commissioner for Culture and Tourism - Hon. Orman; Oron Local Government Council Chairman - Rt. Hon. (Pastor) Anthony Bassey; Rt. Hon. (Mrs.) Alice Ekpenyong; Otuekong Anietie Ekong - former PDP state secretary; Elder Etang Nkanga - Chairman of AKS PDP Chapter Chairmen; Chief Jerry Okpo; High Chief William Mkpa; Mr. Etienne Bob; Mr Murphy Esin; Sir Essang Nsa Bassey and many others.
Addressing the gathering, the chairman of the occasion, Sir Samuel Ekpenyong commended Oron Federal Constituency for giving Akwa Ibom South a quality representative and someone who in less than 2 months has shown great sign that her 4 year tenure shall be rewarding. Mr. Ekpenyong advised the trainees to take the opportunity very seriously as to make something useful out of it. He called on spirited individuals, groups, organizations and institutions to partner the senator in seeking ways of helping the youths.
In his remark, the Labour and Manpower Planning Commissioner thanked Senator Eyakenyi for her love to undertake the training of the youths. He promised that his ministry shall partner the senator in getting the youths trained. Others announced their support for the project while commending the senator.
Responding, the beneficiaries through Mr. Cyril Elensi thanked God for the privilege and promised to be of good conduct while undertaking the training. They prayed God to bless Senator Eyakenyi for her show of love.
It was indeed another occasion for the Oron Federal Constituency people to count their blessings through the Distinguished Senator, Dr. Akon Eyakenyi. Oro people cannot help but be thankful to God for the choice of Senator Akon Eyakenyi PhD.
